Community, Camaraderie and a Car Full of Dirt: Supporting Team Sliding Bores

Driving for a Cause: How Team Sliding Bores Raised $11,000 for the Cancer Council

Community spirit and a little bit of dirt can go a remarkably long way. At Loyal I.T. Solutions, we believe that supporting our community is just as important as keeping your business computers running smoothly. That is why we were absolutely thrilled to sponsor Team Sliding Bores, driven by Ian and Garth, for the 2026 Winter Shitbox Rally.

Before they even hit the road, the boys brought their rally car to our North Gosford office for a visit. Seeing the vehicle up close really brought home the reality of what they were about to undertake. Their mission was massive. They needed to drive from Mildura to Townsville in just one week, all while raising vital funds for Cancer Council Australia.

We followed their journey closely, and it was a brilliant display of commitment, teamwork, and choosing a positive attitude when the going got tough. Here is a look at the highs, the challenges, and the downright fun moments from their week in the outback.

The Journey Begins

Day one kicked off in Mildura with an impressive line up of 250 cars. After a quick briefing, the team headed for Hay, taking advantage of a delay for minor car repairs to capture some fantastic drone footage. The day wrapped up with a hearty dinner, a campfire, and a well earned sleep in their swags under the chilly Cobar stars.

Rock Gods and Outback Pubs

Day two perfectly captured the idea of having fun at work, or in this case, on the road. The theme for the day was "Rock Gods," bringing plenty of laughs and brilliant costumes to the dirt tracks. The route from Cobar to Charleville included a stop at the iconic bakery in Bourke and a special visit to the Wyandra pub, where the local legends opened up specifically for the rally drivers.

Ian and Garth also made time to visit Angellala, the site of Australia's most powerful explosion, before executing a flawlessly planned arrival into the Charleville camp. Their teamwork was a thing of beauty, ensuring space was reserved for their triage person without any unnecessary radio chatter.

Beating the Heat

Not every day is easy, and day five certainly tested their resolve. The extreme heat of the far north and an expansive stretch of dirt roads pushed the car to its limits. Vehicle repairs meant they missed the sunset at Karumba, but they still managed to take in local sights like the famous purple hotel and the life sized Krys the crocodile model in Normanton. They rolled into camp exhausted but proud, proving their perseverance.

A Triumphant Finish

The final leg on day seven was the perfect conclusion to this epic adventure. The day started with a car assessment (revealing an incredible amount of dirt), a visit to an old Ford museum, and a photo with a local dinosaur.

After a quick stop for a highly recommended ice cream in Herberton, the weather turned. It rained all the way to Mission Beach, where the team stretched their legs before navigating a surprising traffic jam. In true dramatic fashion, Team Sliding Bores crossed the finish line as the very last buddy group before the line officially closed.

Making a Real Difference

The most rewarding part of the entire week happened right at the finish line. As they crossed, the team received the news that they had officially cracked the $11,000 mark for Cancer Council Australia.

We are incredibly proud to have sponsored Ian and Garth on this journey. Their effort perfectly reflects our core values of community support, loyalty, and exceeding expectations.

A massive congratulations to Team Sliding Bores for a safe and successful trip. If you would like to chat about our community initiatives, or if your business needs a hand with I.T. support, please reach out to the office at reception@loyalit.com.au or 02 4337 0700. We are always happy to help.
